Cases at Specific Courts

• Common Pleas Court- maintains civil, criminal and domestic cases
• Probate Court – maintains will and estates, mental illness, adoptions, and marriage licenses
• Domestic Relations Court Division – maintains divorce and child custody cases
• Juvenile Court – maintains offenses concerning children
• County Courts – maintains chancery, traffic cases, minor offenses, civil complaints up to $15,000 and small claims less than $3000.
• Municipal Courts – maintains civil cases less than $15,000 and some criminal cases
• Courts of Claims – maintains suits against state, personal injury, property damage, contracts, and wrongful deaths

Record Types

• Court Dockets: Books that contain all document filings in Court cases prior to July 1, 1992
• Certificate of Judgments: Judgment liens against land and tenements.  Originate from any judgment and department of taxation
• Divorce: Dissolving of a marriage
• Criminal Records: Common Pleas Court criminal records are all felony cases
• Civil Records: Common Pleas Court civil records consist of law suits over $15,000, personal injury over $25,000, and foreclosure of property owned in Warren County
• General Index: Indexes alphabetical by plaintiff or defendants named in cases that were filed in the Common Pleas Court

Probate Court Records for Warren County generally include: marriage records, death records 1867-1908; birth records 1867-1908; index to estates; wills; intestate cases; guardianships; minister's licenses, adoptions and naturalizations (which are sometimes also filed in the Common Pleas Court).
