Administrative board that oversees all county property, road construction, boundary changes, bond issues, and supervises all other county offices
 

Auditor

Book keeper & secretary for county
 

Treasurer

Collects real estate taxes & maintains all financial records for county
 

Recorder

Provides access to ownership of all county land records
 

Surveyor/ County Engineer

Provides open access to all maps & surveys of townships, villages and cities in the county
 

Coroner

Determine the cause(s) of death from violent or unknown circumstances.  May call an inquest jury to help decide verdict
 

Common Pleas Court Judge

Jurisdiction over all chancery, civil and criminal cases
 

Probate Judge

Settles will and estates, guardianships, marriages, births, deaths, insanity, idiocy, deaf & dumb persons, adoptions, name changes and naturalizations. 
 

Sheriff

Oversees county jail and prisoners, jury & witnesses at trials
 

Clerk of Courts

Maintains court records
 

Prosecuting Attorney

Legal advisor for all county officers and represents State in prosecution of criminals
 

 

 

Township Government

Each township enjoys the rights and privileges conferred by the laws of the General assembly, managing their own affairs such as roads, ditches, schools, care of the poor, justices of the peace and local taxes.  Each township may receive, hold and dispose of real and personal property and levy taxes.

Trustees

General administrative board for the township.  They care and control the township property, levy taxes, repair roads, keep care of the township cemeteries, maintain the township board of health and may furnish relief to the poor.
 

Justices of the Peace

Regulated by County Probate Court.  They have jurisdiction over minor offenses in township, and have power to solemnize marriages, administer oaths, acknowledge deeds, call witnesses and compel them to appear for trials.
 

Clerk (Fiscal Officer)

Maintain record of all proceedings.

Mayor, Clerk, Marshall, Sealer of Weights & Measurers (larger villages may also have a solicitor, & street commissioner).  The council serves as the village legislature.  Also served by Board of Education and Board of Health.
 

City

> 5000 people

Served by the Council, Mayor, Clerk, Cemetery Trustees, Water Works Trustee, Assessor, Solicitor, Treasurer, City Commissioners, marshal, City Engineer, Fire Engineer, Police Department, Board of Health & others.
