In 1933, the American Legion adopted a national veteran grave registration plan to help insure that the grave of every deceased veteran was included in Memorial Day services. The Depression era Works Progress Administration "adopted" the project, researching each veteran, completing a Grave Registration Card, and preparing a plat of each cemetery showing the the individual veteran gravesites. The cards were filed with the various County Recorders. In Warren County, the card file continues to be maintained by the staff of the Warren County Recorder, 406 Justice Drive, Lebanon, Ohio, 45036.

The 2007 book, Warren County, Ohio Veteran Grave Registration Cards, by Mary M. Everhart, contains an abstract of the information contained on the 6,321 cards on file at the Warren County Recorder’s office for burials occurring from 1814 through 2002.
