Warren County Genealogical Society
Warren County, Ohio
Marriage Records, 1803-1834

After the formation of Warren County in 1803, marriages and licenses were recorded in two different record books.

bullet The 1st license book is labeled "Marriage License Issued Z1 1803 — 1836".
The earliest entry reads: "4th July 1803 James Armstrong of lawful age & Ebby Ligget, consent of her father"
bullet The 1st marriage book is labeled "Marriage Record No. 1 O.S. 1803 — 1852"
The first entry in the Marriage Record reads:"#1 30th August 1803 Benjamin Jones & Hannah Julyon by Mathias Corwin Esq."

The contents of both of these volumes were transcribed and compiled by Ellen Van Houten and Florence Cole for publication by the Warren County Genealogical Society as "Warren County Marriage Records, 1803 — 1834." The book combines marriages and licenses together. Many marriages are recorded but no license was issued from them and many licenses were issued but no marriage was ever recorded.

This online index only contains the names of the bride and groom & the year that they were married. If you find your ancestor listed here and you would like more information please visit our library or contact our research department listed on the About Us page.
