This online index only lists the individual, death date (if known) and reference page. We are creating a master index of everyone who is buried in this county and their burial location to aid researchers. We are especially in need of people buried here who have no stones or whose stones no longer exist. If you have any of this information or if you have additional information for anyone who is buried in this cemetery, please email the Warren County Genealogical Society.

Cemetery History

The Jeffery Cemetery is an area about 40' by 50' located on a vacant 40.6 acre parcel of farmland owned by S.M.G. Land Holdings LLC. The parcel is a part of the original farm where Francis Jeffery settled in 1816 that was later known as the Minst Farm. The name is also found spelled Jeffrey rather than Jeffery. The farm now owned by Ralph Stolle family.  This cemetery is very difficult to find.  It is behind a corn field back along an old dirt road that leads to the burned down old home site.  The old barn is still standing.  From this entry point, it is a good hike through the woods past a small creek (Hawley's Run) and up a slight hill.  The cemetery is on top of the small hillside.  Most of the fence surrounding the cemetery is still intact but in poor condition.  It is very overgrown with brush and small trees. Brad Norris, Terry Easton and Dana Palmer visited and photographed it in December 2009.  The owners would like to restore this cemetery.

There are four definite rows of graves. Of the 18 known graves many of the headstones are still intact but not set in their bases. Chester Dunn of the Warren County Genealogical Society was able to get names and details on the 18 stones in this cemetery and published it in Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 6. The rest of the graves are marked by plain unlettered limestone field markers. It is not known who is buried in the unmarked field stone graves

Many details about this cemetery came from a scale drawing found among the papers of William Jeffery. The date the drawing was made and by whom is not known. It was drawn on fine linen paper using brown ink and the handwriting looks very much like that of Francis Jeffery J.P., of Washington Township, 1850’s and 1860’s. Much of the information was provided by Robert Jeffery, great grandson of Francis Jeffery.
