This online index only lists the individual, death date (if
known) and reference page. We are creating a master index of everyone who is
buried in this county and their burial location to aid researchers. We are
especially in need of people buried here who have no stones or whose stones no
longer exist. If you have any of this information or if you have additional information for anyone who is buried in
this cemetery,
please
email the Warren County Genealogical Society.

Cemetery History |
Most if not all of
the burials in this family cemetery (located in the northeast corner of a 101
acre farm in Military Survey #1497) are for
Daniel and Catharine
(Myer) Ertel and their descendants including 4 of their 10
children. The Patterson
pillar monument, located centrally on the west side of the cemetery, is the main
visible structure. In addition to headstones with engraved names and dates,
there were a number of smaller limestone rocks that were sticking vertically out
of the ground but were too weathered to have any words visible. It is assumed
that they were headstones made out of the local, native limestone, but not
polished smooth like commercially made headstones (normally, native limestone
rocks are not found sticking up vertically from natural freeze and thaw ground
movement). The cemetery is laid out roughly north south, with the Patterson
family in the west central portion, the Patton family in the north east, and the
Ertel family in the southeast corner. Contains 21 known burials.
Most if not all of the burials in this family
cemetery (located in the northeast corner of a 101 acre farm in Military
Survey #1497) are for Daniel and Catharine (Myer)
Ertel and their descendants including 4 of their 10 children:
Valentine Ertel (1793-1820),
Daniel Ertel (1797-1870), John
Ertel (1799-1851) & Elizabeth (Ertel)
Patterson (1806-1881).
Daniel and Catharine (Myer) Ertel were among the earliest settlers in Hamilton Twp. A number of Biographical Sketches in Beers History of Warren County provide additional information about the family.
The farm is shown on the following maps however the 1875 map is the only one which indicates the location of the cemetery in the northeast corner of the property with an orchard shown to the south and west. Except for the 1932 plat book, the farm is shown to be owned by J. Ertel/Ertle, J. Ertel Heirs, and then John Ertel.
