This online index only lists the individual, death date (if known) and reference page. We are creating a master index of everyone who is buried in this county and their burial location to aid researchers. We are especially in need of people buried here who have no stones or whose stones no longer exist. If you have any of this information or if you have additional information for anyone who is buried in this cemetery, please email the Warren County Genealogical Society.

Cemetery History

The Ford Cemetery is a long neglected cemetery located in a heavily wooded area on a privately owned 139 acre parcel of vacant farm land in Virginia Military District Survey #4239.  Some of the early owners of the property can be identified by looking at various maps which would include J. Spence (1856, 1867, 1875), T. D. Spence (1892), W. F. Eltzroth (1903) & J. M. Cretcher (1932). The cemetery is included in the WPA Veteran Grave Registration Project as Cemetery #26 on page 13 which shows 7 rows containing 10 graves each.  The plat does not identify any veteran burials.

There were 33 known burials in this cemetery from 1815 to 1886 plus a footstone which does not match any of the names. Sadly, hardly any of the stones remain standing in 2009 and many of the stones are in pieces.
Family names listed within include: Morgan, Creamer, Cramer, Snell, Leer, Lear, Pobst, McMullin, Neumaster, Hammer, Clark, and Spurling.  Our volunteers were able to find and photograph all but the stone for Nancy Fulks, dau. of J. & C. Fulks who died on 20 Dec 1835 aged 26 days.

    • Early Vital Records Volume 21, pages 134a (listed as Cozaddale-Murdock Cemetery) listing 27 burials

    • Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 5 page 5 listing 32 burials dating from 1815 through 1886 as read by Chester Dunn, Betty Dunn & Evelyn Preest
    • Our thanks to Warren County Genealogical Society volunteers, Henry Johnson, Vicki L. Bergerhouse and Dana Palmer who photographed all extant gravestones on 6 Oct 2009 for the "Warren County Virtual Cemetery Project." They were able to photograph gravestones for 32 of the 33 known burials in the cemetery as well as numerous footstones, including one marked J. D. H. which does not match any of gravestones.  There also found many fieldstones and other worn stones which are no longer identifiable.  All of the photos have been added to this website. These efforts will be incorporated into the new cemetery books planned by the society.
